"Turtle Shell" by Nuna W. Woofy (Getty Images)

by Stephen Jordan

Are you a game piece?
I’m a game piece
These islands?
squeezed tight
Can you hear the shore?
it was long ago

Knows where the airport is
Knows your shoes well
Watches you with sidelong stares
Were you here before?
Have you heard?
Did you read?

How is your home?
hand-sanded
Where are the others?
my blood
How does the day break?
for years
engines
